Town Design Guidelines
The Design Guidelines are the foundation underlying the Design Review process and are essential for the Town in it's efforts to maintain Historic District status and the over-all charm of our community. The Guidelines are a great starting point when considering building or remodeling in Town. Please visit the Building Department Staff with any questions about your project after consulting the Guidelines.
To navigate the Guidelines, first determine the zone in which your property is located. Please consult the Town Zoning map or contact the Building Department to determine what zone your property is located in. Then, read the chapters which pertain to your property. If your property is historic, please see the Chapter 3 Guidelines pertaining to Historic Preservation as well as to your particular zone. If you plan to build a new structure, please see Chapters 2 and 4, which provides Guidance for all new construction.
Do you own or have you just purchased a historic home or commercial building in the Town of Crested Butte? The Town of Crested Butte has developed two brochures that might be of help to you "Maintaining Your Historic Structure" and "About Your Historic Property" in day-to-day maintenance or bringing a proposal before the Board.
